Georgetown County Council honors fire service leaders and volunteers

Georgetown County Council recognized three standout members of the local emergency services community during its meeting Tuesday night, presenting awards for leadership, professional excellence, and volunteerism.

Assistant Chief Aaron Bostic of Georgetown County Fire & EMS was named the 2025 Manager of the Year. Bostic, who oversees daily operations for the department, was cited for his “hands-on” leadership style and his work in advancing the department’s specialized capabilities.

Bostic was instrumental in developing the county’s new marine response division, including the design of a specialized vessel tailored to the area’s unique waterways. He also manages the department’s unmanned aerial systems (drone) program and recently secured a Certificate of Authorization (COA) for the agency. This certification allows on-duty personnel to deploy drones rapidly for search and rescue and aerial fire reconnaissance.

Beyond technical achievements, Bostic was lauded for his support of staff, specifically his role as the primary family liaison for a firefighter critically injured in a motorcycle accident last fall.

The council also presented the annual Volunteer of the Year award to Ed Mills for his 40 years of service with Midway Fire Rescue. A certified electrician, Mills saved the department thousands of dollars in 2025 by volunteering his professional labor for station upgrades, including the wiring of a new turnout gear dryer and a carport shed for trailers. 

Additionally, Lt. Alex Roman received the Employee Volunteer of the Year award. Roman, a 15-year veteran of Georgetown County Fire & EMS, led the 2025 Toys for Tots collection. His coordination with local businesses and department members resulted in the collection of 700 toys for children in the community this holiday season.
