The film’s executive producer is Omolola “Lola” Campbell, a sixth-generation Gullah descendant, in collaboration with award-winning documentary director Maguire.
“The documentary means a great deal to the Gullah community. It shares our history, but it also shows that Gullah culture is alive, evolving, and deeply rooted in community. We wanted people to see not just where we’ve come from, but where we are now and where we’re going,” Campbell said. “Developing this documentary in partnership with the chamber was important to us. It was a true collaboration built on trust and a shared commitment to telling the Gullah story with integrity.”
“It’s been an honor to stand alongside the Gullah community in bringing this documentary to life. From the beginning, this was about partnership and respect. The documentary and the story it tells belong to the Gullah community, and our role was to support it,” said Bill Miles, President & CEO, Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce.
“The Spirit We Move With is a powerful reminder that the culture, traditions, and leadership of the Gullah community continue to shape Hilton Head Island in meaningful ways today and for generations to come,” Miles said.
