New Laurens CPW Water Tank Bowl to be Raised Saturday

Residents in Laurens will have a unique opportunity this weekend to watch a major piece of local infrastructure quite literally take shape in the sky.

According to Laurens Commission of Public Works General Manager John M. Young, the large “bowl” section of the new elevated water storage tank on Dean Drive is scheduled to be lifted into place on Saturday, February 7.

While construction on the tank has been underway for several months, this phase marks one of the most visible and anticipated milestones in the project. The lifting process will begin early Saturday morning and move at a slow, steady pace throughout the day. Officials estimate the tank bowl will rise above the tree line sometime between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

For those interested in seeing the operation, CPW recommends viewing from the parking lot of Big Air Laurens, located at 1500 West Main Street. The location offers a clear and safe vantage point of the construction site.

Once completed, the new tank will become the latest addition to CPW’s water system and will prominently feature the Raider logo, representing Laurens Raiders. Beyond school pride, the tank plays an important role in strengthening the community’s water infrastructure.

The project is part of a broader $10.5 million water system improvement initiative funded by the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority. These upgrades are designed to enhance water storage capacity, improve system reliability, and support future growth in the Laurens area.
