Habitat for Humanity seeks volunteers interested in international build project in Cambodia
February 9, 2026Habitat for Humanity of Georgetown County is conducting a Global Village build in Siem Reap, Cambodia, from August 16 – 22, 2026. This trip recently received final approval from Habitat for Humanity International, and Patrick Brannen, who serves as the Marketing and Community Engagement Coordinator in Georgetown, will be leading this international build.
“The Global Village program is a powerful reminder that the need for safe and stable housing extends far beyond our local community,” Brannen explained. “Families across the world share the same hope for a place to call home. In Cambodia, many families continue to face housing challenges, and this build offers an opportunity to work directly alongside local communities to help create lasting change. While the setting may be different from Georgetown County, the mission remains the same. People coming together to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.”
Brannen is recruiting interested individuals who share a passion for service and global community. Participation in this Global Village build includes a per person program donation of $1,504, which supports construction, local partnerships, meals, lodging, and in country logistics. Participants should also plan for airfare, which typically ranges from $1,500 to $2,500 depending on travel timing and duration. He hopes to have 12 volunteers on the build team.
What makes this experience so meaningful is not just the homes that will be built, but the relationships that form along the way. Global Village builds allow volunteers to serve while also learning from the families and communities they support.
“Sharing meals, stories, and time together creates connections that transcend language and geography. These moments remind us that housing is not just about structures, but about dignity, opportunity, and belonging,” Brannen added.
This build reflects the same values that guide Habitat for Humanity for Georgetown County. No one builds alone. Every home is the result of volunteers, donors, and community members working together with a shared purpose. Whether locally or internationally, Habitat’s mission is rooted in partnership and hope.
