Chilly plunges and polished chrome: Mauldin Police launch dual fundraisers for Special Olympics
February 8, 2026Mauldin Police Department is gearing up for a season of service and community spirit as it kicks off a series of fundraisers for Special Olympics South Carolina. The efforts begin this month with the annual Polar Plunge, an event that challenges local residents to be freezin’ for a reason to support athletes across the state.
The Polar Plunge is scheduled for Saturday, February 21, at the 7th Inning Splash Waterpark in Piedmont. From 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., participants who have raised a minimum of 50 dollars will take a chilly dive into the waterpark pool. The afternoon will feature more than just cold water, with a costume contest, live music, and awards for the top fundraisers. For those who want to support the cause while remaining dry, the department is also offering a virtual plunger option.
While the Polar Plunge takes center stage this February, the department is already preparing for its next major community gathering. The Trail Gate Jeep Jam Show and Shine is set for Saturday, March 7, on Via Corso Avenue in Simpsonville. This Jeep-only car show allows enthusiasts to show off their rigs and connect with fellow residents. Awards will be handed out for categories such as Best in Show Wrangler, Most Muddy Jeep, and a special Athlete Favorite award selected by Special Olympics athletes.
Both events benefit the Law Enforcement Torch Run, which provides year-round sports training and competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities. 100 percent of the proceeds stay in South Carolina to support local programs.
Residents interested in joining the Mauldin Police Department team for the plunge or registering their vehicle for the March show can find more information on the City of Mauldin website.
