Georgetown Middle School educators honored with statewide awards

The Georgetown County School District is celebrating two major achievements at Georgetown Middle School following state-level recognition from the South Carolina Association of School Librarians.

Carolyn Wilson, a media paraprofessional at Georgetown Middle School, has been named the South Carolina Association of School Librarians Library Paraprofessional of the Year. Wilson was nominated by GMS Media Specialist Jenny Cox, who cited Wilson’s exemplary service and her direct support of library programs at both the school and district levels.

In a double win for the school, Cox herself was also honored. She received the South Carolina Association of School Librarians Outstanding School Library Program of the Year Award. The award recognizes programs that demonstrate excellence in learning environments, collaborative partnerships, leadership, and advocacy.

School administration and Adrienne Watford, the district’s director of special programs, notified both women of their awards Wednesday morning.

“We are incredibly proud of Ms. Wilson and Mrs. Cox for their dedication to students, literacy, and learning,” the district said in a statement.
