Georgetown to celebrate Revolutionary War hero during ‘Day of the Fox’ living history event

February 22, 2026

The legacy of Gen. Francis Marion, the legendary “Swamp Fox,” will return to the streets of Georgetown on Saturday, March 7, as the city hosts the Francis Marion Living History Day.

The event, titled “Day of the Fox,” will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Francis Marion and Rainey Parks. Sponsored by the Georgetown 250th Committee, the celebration is part of a series of events commemorating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolutionary War.

“We’ll be celebrating Francis Marion Living History Day with reenactors and artisans,” said Ken Baeszler, chairman of the Georgetown 250th Committee. “It is an opportunity to see history come to life through demonstrations and interactive displays.”

The day’s highlights include live firing demonstrations by the 2nd South Carolina Regiment, while Webster’s 13th Regiment of Foot, Royal Forces, will simulate the pursuit of the evasive Marion. Attendees will also have the chance to “meet” historical figures, including George and Martha Washington and Rachel Moore Allston.

The event features a wide array of colonial-era activities and exhibits, including:

  • Artisans and Crafts: Basket weaving and traditional gunsmithing by Robert Hill.

  • Youth Activities: Specialized activities and games for children.

  • Historical Displays: Presentations by the Choctaw Nation, the Gullah Museum, the Colonial Dames, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Sons of the American Revolution.

  • Local Historians: Contributions from Elizabeth Huntsinger and “The History Man.”

Additionally, the Francis Marion Interpretive Center will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The center currently features a rare, signed letter by Francis Marion, alongside various historical exhibits detailing his military impact.

Admission to all Francis Marion Living History Day events is free to the public.
