Georgetown County Sheriff Carter Weaver announces deployment of Special Olympics awareness patrol vehicle
February 22, 2026Sheriff Carter Weaver is proud to announce the deployment of a specially wrapped patrol vehicle in support of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. The vehicle, the first of its kind in South Carolina, made its official debut at the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office Polar Plunge earlier this month.
The vehicle serves as a mobile tribute and a visible symbol of the agency’s commitment to the more than 30,000 Special Olympics athletes participating in programs across the state. It is scheduled to travel throughout South Carolina for various state events, community appearances, and Torch Run activities.
“This patrol vehicle represents far more than a wrap,” said Sheriff Weaver. “It represents the dedication of our deputy sheriffs to serving our communities both in uniform and beyond the call of duty. Every mile traveled helps raise awareness and support for the athletes who inspire us every day.”
The Law Enforcement Torch Run stands as the largest grassroots fundraising movement for Special Olympics worldwide. In South Carolina, 100% of the funds raised through the movement directly support athlete participation, competition opportunities, and critical medical health screenings, all provided at no cost to the athletes.
The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office has a long-standing history of support for the organization. To date, the agency has hosted six Polar Plunges, raising a total of $307,961 for Special Olympics South Carolina. This past year, the office expanded its efforts by introducing “Cops on the Coop,” a fundraising event hosted by the Murrells Inlet Chick-fil-A.
The deployment of this unique vehicle aims to further spread awareness of the mission of Special Olympics South Carolina and highlight the positive impact the organization has on athletes with intellectual disabilities and their families.
