Winter Storms Delay Highly Anticipated Stadium Opener at BridgeWay Station
February 23, 2026Fans of the Greenville Triumph and Greenville Liberty will have to wait just a little longer for the debut of their new permanent home. Club leadership announced this week that the opening match at GE Vernova Park, originally slated for May 9, has been rescheduled to Wednesday, June 3.
The delay comes following back-to-back winter storms in late January and early February. While rare for the Upstate, these weather events created significant challenges for the construction teams. Although the structural work remains on schedule, the storms impacted the timeline for the operational outfitting of the stadium, including the final readiness of various fan-facing components.
A Bridge to BridgeWay
Despite the change for the new stadium debut, the soccer season itself is still on track. The Triumph will open their 2026 home campaign as originally planned at Furman University’s Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium. Fans can catch the action during three early home matches:
-
Saturday, March 14 vs. Chattanooga Red Wolves SC
-
Wednesday, March 25 vs. New York Cosmos
-
Sunday, March 29 vs. Westchester SC
General Manager Zach Prince noted that these early matches at Furman provide a perfect bridge to the new facility, offering fans an intimate soccer environment while the finishing touches are applied to GE Vernova Park.
World Cup Week Celebration
The shift to a June 3 opener creates a unique opportunity for the club. The new date falls during the week leading up to the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Triumph plans to turn the stadium debut into a massive celebration of the sport, incorporating World Cup-themed festivities to mark this historic chapter in Mauldin.
The venue for the previously scheduled May 9 home match is expected to be announced at a later date, while the May 15 match against Loudoun United FC has been moved to June 10 at the new stadium.
What to Expect at the New Home
Once open, GE Vernova Park will offer a seating capacity of 4,300 with a total capacity of 6,300. The club is committed to ensuring every detail—from the playing surface to the scoreboard—is up to their exacting standards. Throughout the spring, the team will share regular construction updates, including milestones like turf and seating installation, to keep the community involved in the journey.
