New Book Celebrates Laurens County Museum’s Legacy; Author Peggy Cwiakala to Hold March 21 Signing

February 24, 2026

The Laurens County Museum has announced the release of a new book honoring the history and impact of one of the county’s most treasured institutions.

A South Carolina Jewel: Celebrating the Laurens County Museum by local author Peggy Cwiakala is now available for purchase at the museum. The publication chronicles the museum’s evolution and highlights the people, artifacts, and stories that have shaped its role as a cultural centerpiece for Laurens County.

Community members will have an opportunity to meet the author in person during a book signing scheduled for Saturday, March 21, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Laurens County Museum on the Public Square.

Cwiakala, a librarian, researcher, and longtime supporter of local history, has authored multiple works focused on Laurens County. Her newest book offers a behind-the-scenes look at how the museum grew from a modest effort into a vibrant center dedicated to preserving the county’s heritage.

Museum officials say the book not only documents the institution’s past but also celebrates the volunteers, donors, and community leaders who have helped sustain it for generations.

Visitors attending the signing will be able to purchase copies onsite and have them personally signed by the author. The event is open to the public and provides a unique opportunity for residents to connect with local history while supporting the museum’s ongoing mission.

Located at 116 South Public Square, the Laurens County Museum houses a wide range of exhibits documenting the area’s cultural, military, and social history. The new book serves as both a tribute to that legacy and an invitation for future generations to remain engaged with the preservation of Laurens County’s story.
