Charleston County to host public meeting on Fort Johnson Road intersection improvements

February 26, 2026

Charleston County Public Works will host a public meeting to provide a quarterly construction update on intersection improvement projects at Fort Johnson and Secessionville roads and Fort Johnson and Camp roads. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at James Island Town Hall, located at 1122 Dills Bluff Road.

During the meeting, the project team will provide updates on milestones achieved, work underway, and next steps for each project. Following their presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to speak with the project team directly.

Funded by the 2016 Transportation Sales Tax referendum, the pair of intersection upgrades are designed to improve traffic flow and enhance safety for both motorists and pedestrians.

The Fort Johnson Road at Secessionville Road intersection is being upgraded to a signalized intersection with crosswalks, pedestrian refuge areas, pedestrian signals, and dedicated turn lanes to streamline traffic and improve safety.

The Fort Johnson Road at Camp Road intersection is being reconfigured into a traversable urban compact roundabout, which is designed to safely and efficiently manage mixed traffic types. The project also includes enhanced pedestrian infrastructure, including sidewalks, ramps, crosswalks, refuge areas, ad more.

Construction activities are underway at both intersections, and construction is expected to continue until June 2027.

The project team will host quarterly public meetings to deliver status updates and answer questions throughout the duration of construction.
