Spring Forward this Weekend: Longer Evenings Ahead

March 3, 2026

Laurens County residents will set their clocks forward one hour this weekend as Daylight Saving Time begins at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 8.

That means one less hour of sleep Saturday night — but an extra hour of evening daylight beginning Sunday.

For many, the time change signals more than just adjusting the clock. It marks the unofficial start of spring activity season. From youth sports practices and high school games to downtown events, farm visits, and evenings on the porch, the extra daylight brings new energy to the community.

While brighter evenings are welcome, darker mornings can take some adjustment — especially for students waiting on school buses and early commuters heading to work.

Helpful reminders for the time change:

• Replace batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
• Adjust thermostats, vehicle clocks, and irrigation timers.
• Ease into the change by going to bed 15–30 minutes earlier a few nights before Sunday.
• Use extra caution on the roads Monday morning due to reduced visibility at sunrise.

Daylight Saving Time will remain in effect until Sunday, November 1, when clocks “fall back” one hour.

As spring approaches and community calendars begin filling up, the longer evenings are a welcome sign that brighter days are ahead in Laurens County.
