Irmo leaders invest in youth success at Youngs Chapel AME
March 5, 2026In a demonstration of community partnership, Mayor Bill Danielson and Councilwoman Phyllis Coleman visited Youngs Chapel AME Church recently to present a $6,250 donation on behalf of the Mayor’s Uplift Initiative. The contribution is earmarked for the Youngs Chapel Enrichment Center’s 2026 Summer Camp, ensuring that local students have the fuel they need to succeed this summer.
Investing in the future
The donation specifically secures the food sponsorship level for the upcoming camp season. By fully funding the nutritional needs of the program, the Mayor’s Uplift Initiative is removing significant financial barriers for families in the Irmo area. With meals fully covered, the camp’s young scholars can shift their entire focus toward learning, personal growth and summer enrichment without the distraction of food insecurity.
A summer of “Leveling Up”
The Youngs Chapel Enrichment Center Summer Camp is designed to be more than just a daycare; it is a holistic development hub. The mission is to provide a supportive environment where children can “Level Up” academically, socially and spiritually.
This year’s programming includes:
- Academic excellence: Focused enrichment in reading and math to combat summer learning loss;
- STEM and innovation: Hands-on activities and STEM learning designed to spark curiosity;
- Leadership: Character-building sessions and mentorship from community leaders;
- Future planning: Early exposure to various college and career pathways; and
- Healthy living: Health and nutrition education paired with safe, structured recreation.
Enrollment information
Families interested in participating in this year’s program won’t have to wait long. Applications for the Enrichment Center Summer Camp will officially open in two weeks. Complete registration details, schedules and program requirements will be posted directly on the Youngs Chapel AME Church website. Parents are encouraged to check the site regularly, as spots are expected to fill quickly given the high-quality programming and community support.
A shared vision for Irmo
The collaboration highlights a growing bond between the Town of Irmo’s municipal leadership and its local institutions. Representatives from Youngs Chapel AME Church and the Enrichment Center expressed deep gratitude for the support, noting that such partnerships are vital to ensuring high-quality programming remains accessible to all children, regardless of financial circumstances.
The Rev. Frederick A. Wilson said, “We thank the Mayor’s Uplift Initiative for your generosity in feeding the wonderful children of Irmo.”
Through the Mayor’s Uplift Initiative, the Town of Irmo continues to prioritize investments that foster a stronger, more connected community for its residents.
