GCSD and HGTC announce closings due to severe weather threat
March 16, 2026Both Georgetown County School District and Horry-Georgetown Technical College announced closures due to the threat of severe weather.
All Georgetown County School District schools and offices will be closed on Monday, March 16. In addition, all after-school activities scheduled for Monday, including athletic practices, games, meetings, and other events, are cancelled.
HGTC will close its offices at all three campuses at 12:00 noon on Monday, March 16. After closely monitoring updates from the National Weather Service and local meteorologists, the college’s leadership and Emergency Management Team decided to close early to allow employees and students adequate time to travel safely and make necessary preparations. Employees are encouraged to plan accordingly and, where possible, continue working remotely in coordination with their supervisors.
The College is currently observing Spring Break for most academic programs; however, College offices remain open, and some Workforce Development courses and training activities are still taking place. Workforce Development students and participants will receive additional guidance directly from their instructors or program coordinators regarding any schedule adjustments.
HGTC students and employees are encouraged to monitor the College’s official communication channels for updates, including HGTC email, the HGTC Advisory Page, the myHGTC Portal, and HGTC’s social media platforms. For additional information and updates, visit www.hgtc.edu.
Likewise, GCSD parents and guardians should check their email for additional details regarding the eLearning schedule and expectations.
