Songbird Nursery opens retail garden center in Georgetown

March 17, 2026

Songbird Nursery, a plant nursery focused on pollinator-friendly gardening, is opening its retail location to the public in Georgetown as the spring growing season begins.

Owned by Destiny Hetz, the nursery is located at 2016 South Island Road and offers a range of annuals, perennials, vegetable starts, herbs, succulents, trees and shrubs, with plants sourced from local growers and select producers across the Southeast.

Hetz started in the horticulture industry in 2014 and ventured out on her own in 2016, when she peddled plants off her back porch in James Island.

“I traveled around the area to various farmers markets, selling plants and knew that one day I wanted to have my own retail center,” Hetz explained. “I grow a lot of my own plants, and only source flowers from South Carolina to deliver plants that are already acclimated for our climate.”

She moved to Georgetown a few years ago and discovered the perfect location in Maryville. She started her retail business and hopes to eventually add a gift shop with garden inspired items and planters.

Seasonal hours for the nursery are Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Saturdays from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, with shopping by appointment also available. New arrivals for the opening include hanging baskets, geraniums, bougainvillea and a variety of shrubs and ground plants.

Along with the retail opening, Songbird Nursery is also reopening its landscape division for the 2026 season. Hetz brings more than a decade of experience in commercial and residential landscaping and offers services such as new plantings and seasonal landscape updates.

Hetz says she looks forward to welcoming new customers and helping local residents prepare their yards for spring. Check Songbird Nursery on Facebook or call 843-696-2663 for more information.
