Charleston County Public Safety accepting applications for annual Student Leadership and Intern Program
March 24, 2026High school juniors in Charleston County public schools can now apply for Charleston County Public Safety’s Student Leadership and Intern Program, a paid opportunity designed to build leadership skills, introduce career pathways, and provide hands-on experience in the public safety field.
Throughout the program, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of how Charleston County’s public safety teams work together and serve the community. Participants will train with and learn from the Emergency Communications Center (9-1-1), EMS, Awendaw-McClellanville Fire Department, and Emergency Management.
The program includes emergency preparedness training, basic firefighting skills, introductory emergency medical instruction, and simulated call-taking exercises to provide real-world exposure to public safety operations.
The initial five-week summer session begins Friday, June 12, with six-hour days held Monday through Friday through July 16. Students who continue in the program will also participate in select monthly activities during the school year.
There is no cost to participate, and students will earn $16.30 per hour. Applicants must submit signed parental or guardian consent and provide school transcripts verifying current enrollment as a junior in a Charleston County public high school.
