Laurens County Sheriff’s Office Invites Community to Join Annual Jail and Bail Fundraiser

March 25, 2026

Ever had someone in mind you’d love to see hauled off to jail—just for fun, of course? Here’s your chance to make it happen…all for a great cause.

The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office is inviting the community to take part in its annual Jail and Bail fundraiser, a lighthearted event with a serious mission—supporting the department’s Christmas for Kids program.

Set for Friday, May 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the event will take place at The Plaza on the Historic Courthouse Square in downtown Laurens. As the Sheriff’s Office’s largest fundraiser of the year, Jail and Bail helps provide Christmas assistance to hundreds of children across Laurens County.

Here’s how it works: participants volunteer to be “arrested” and set a personal “bail” goal of at least $100. In the weeks leading up to the event, they can begin raising donations to meet that goal. Those who reach their bail ahead of time can avoid “jail”—but are still encouraged to attend for the fun, including a classic “mugshot” photo.

For those who haven’t made bail in advance, the real excitement begins on event day, when participants will have the chance to call friends, family, or coworkers to secure pledges and “earn” their release.

Participants can choose a time that fits their schedule, drop in during event hours, or even arrange for a deputy to “pick them up”—perfect for surprising a coworker or friend. Businesses, teams, families, and individuals are all encouraged to join in, making it a fun and meaningful way to give back together.

“This is one of our favorite events each year because it brings the community together in such a fun and engaging way, while making a real impact for local children,” said Courtney Snow, Public Information Officer for the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office. “Every dollar raised goes toward helping make Christmas brighter for kids in Laurens County, and we’re grateful for the continued support from our community.”

The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office looks forward to welcoming both first-time participants and returning “repeat offenders” for a day filled with laughter, community spirit, and generosity.
