Say His Name One Last Time: Mauldin Youth Theatre Wraps Up

March 28, 2026

The ghost-with-the-most is preparing for his final curtain call in the Golden Strip. The Mauldin Youth Theatre’s hit production of “Beetlejuice Jr.” enters its final weekend of performances at the Mauldin Cultural Center, following a series of nearly sold-out shows that have brought the Netherworld to life in the Upstate.

Based on the 1988 Tim Burton film and the subsequent Broadway sensation, the “Junior” version of the musical has been a high-energy centerpiece of Mauldin’s 2025-2026 theatre season.

A Spooky-Fun Success

The production follows Lydia Deetz, a “strange and unusual” teenager obsessed with the afterlife, who teams up with a bio-exorcist demon to scare away her father and his overbearing girlfriend from their new—and haunted—home.

Local audiences have praised the youth cast for their handle on the show’s complex vocal score and irreverent humor. While the original Broadway production is known for its dark edge, the “Jr.” adaptation focuses heavily on themes of family, processing grief, and finding where you belong—making it a perfect fit for the Mauldin Cultural Center’s community-focused stage.
