New “Product of USA” Label Aims to Boost Transparency and Support American Farmers
March 28, 2026A new labeling initiative from the U.S. Department of Agriculture is rolling out nationwide, giving consumers a clearer way to identify meat, poultry, and egg products that are truly sourced and produced in the United States.
According to the South Carolina Department of Agriculture, the updated “Product of USA” label is a voluntary claim that can only be used on products from animals that are born, raised, harvested, and processed entirely within the United States. The effort is designed to provide greater transparency at the grocery store and help consumers make more informed purchasing decisions.
In the past, labeling standards sometimes caused confusion about where products actually originated. This new designation sets a stricter standard, ensuring that when shoppers see “Product of USA,” they can trust the product meets all four criteria.
State agriculture officials are encouraging consumers to keep an eye out for the label and consider choosing these products as a way to support American farmers and producers. For South Carolina, that includes a strong network of local farms and agricultural businesses that play a vital role in the state’s economy.
Producers interested in using the label can find additional information and application details at productofusa.gov.
As the label becomes more widely available, it offers a simple but meaningful way for consumers to back domestic agriculture—one purchase at a time.
