Georgetown County rescinds burn ban
March 30, 2026Today, March 30, 2026, Georgetown County rescinded its countywide burn ban that went into effect on Friday, March 27, due to to elevated fire weather conditions expected over the weekend. The South Carolina Forestry Commission also lifted its statewide burn ban.
Residents may resume legally allowable burning, but conditions are still not perfect so please use caution. If you choose to burn, the Georgetown County Fire Department suggests residents follow these guidelines:
• Follow all state and local burn laws
• Keep fires small and manageable
• Have a water source nearby
• Never leave a fire unattended
Just because you can burn again doesn’t mean it’s risk-free. Please stay smart and keep small fires from turning into big problems!
Wildfire is one of the most significant natural disaster threats facing Georgetown County. Last year, a wildfire burned 140 acres and threatened homes in the Prince George community. Across South Carolina, wildfires destroy 20 to 30 homes annually, and hundreds more are threatened each fire season.
