Workforce development collaboration strengthens South Carolina’s talent pipeline

Johnson Controls and Midlands Technical College (MTC) hosted an event on March 25, 2026, highlighting their ongoing partnership to expand skilled trades education through the Johnson Controls Community College Partnership Program.

MTC was the first institution in South Carolina invited to participate in the Johnson Controls Community College Partnership Program. Together, the organizations are helping address workforce shortages by preparing students to fill essential HVAC and engineering technology roles across the state, strengthening both local communities and South Carolina’s economy.

“Workforce development plays a critical role in supporting South Carolina’s growth. Skilled trades are the backbone of our regional economy, yet we know many industries face real challenges finding qualified job-ready talent. Johnson Controls’ investment in training equipment means students have access to the technology that best equips them to be workforce-ready,” said Nancy McKinney, CEO of the MTC Foundation.

Johnson Controls presented a $400,000 check representing a multi-year investment in MTC’s HVAC and Engineering Technology programs.

This year marks the fourth year of collaboration between Johnson Controls and MTC.

“The program does an amazing job of bridging education and employment,” said Jon Koontz, market general manager of Johnson Controls West Carolinas. “Students leave here confident, prepared, and ready to step directly into the workforce.”
