Laurens County Fire Departments Among 241 Recognized with Statewide Fire Safety Designation

Laurens County’s fire service is being recognized as part of a growing statewide effort to improve community safety through prevention and education.
A total of 241 fire departments across South Carolina have earned the 2025 Fire Safe South Carolina Community Designation, representing a nearly 17 percent increase from the previous year and marking the first time all 46 counties are represented in the program.
In Laurens County, both the Laurens City Fire Department and the Laurens County Fire Department were included among those receiving the designation.
The Fire Safe South Carolina program emphasizes proactive measures such as public education, community partnerships, and data-driven strategies to reduce fire risks. Departments that earn the designation demonstrate a commitment not only to emergency response, but also to preventing fires and improving overall community safety.
“Fire departments across South Carolina are demonstrating through risk reduction that prevention and education are just as important as emergency response,” said Jonathan Jones. “Through Fire Safe South Carolina, these departments are taking proactive steps to reduce risks to their citizens and protect their communities.”
The initiative, launched in 2017, is a partnership between multiple statewide fire service organizations, including Fire Safe South Carolina and other fire service associations. The program continues to expand as more departments adopt community risk reduction strategies.
Departments receiving the designation will be formally recognized during an awards ceremony on June 12 at the 2026 Fire-Rescue Conference in Myrtle Beach.
For Laurens County residents, the recognition highlights the ongoing work of local firefighters to not only respond when emergencies happen—but to help prevent them in the first place.
