Wiregrass Archaeological Consulting joins Goodwyn Mills Cawood
April 6, 2026Local architecture and engineering firm Goodwyn Mills Cawood is expanding its services through the strategic acquisition of Wiregrass Archeological Consulting.
Founded by Justin Stickler, M.S., RPA, in 2007 in Dothan, Alabama, Wiregrass has built a strong reputation for delivering cultural resources management (CRM) services throughout the Southeast and beyond. By bringing Wiregrass on board, GMC strengthens its environmental department and expands its services by adding cultural resource management.
“After running a small business for nearly 20 years, the opportunity to join GMC presented itself, and I couldn’t be more pleased. The quality and sincerity of its people was evident from the start, and that’s one of the main things that attracted me,” Stickler said. “I am proud to be a part of this company, and our cultural resources team looks forward to contributing to GMC and its clients for years to come.”
Wiregrass brings a wealth of experience with archaeologists, field technicians, GIS professionals, lab personnel, equipment operators and more, that can accomplish a multitude of cultural resources surveys, typically stemming from those required by Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Examples include USACE permit surveys, USFW permits, emergency response under FEMA or the USCG, or projects associated with federal highway, oil and gas or other corridor projects.
In addition, the team can conduct near-shore submerged surveys as well as geophysical archaeology including ground penetrating radar (GPR) surveys and deep testing.
Wiregrass is recognized for their expertise throughout the Southeast, having completed more than 1,000 projects primarily in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi. Their 11-person team includes professionals located in Dothan, Mobile and Auburn, Alabama; Pensacola, Florida; and Greenville, South Carolina, allowing them to serve clients throughout the Southeast.
“The ability to conduct cultural resource assessments in-house is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time,” GMC Executive Vice President of Environmental Jof Mehaffey said. “Not only am I excited for us to be able to serve our clients more efficiently and consistently, but also to work alongside Justin and his team on a day-to-day basis. I truly believe they’re some of the best in their field, and we look forward to growing our cultural resource services throughout the GMC footprint.”
The Wiregrass team will expand GMC’s footprint with an office in Dothan and a second office in Mobile.
