Westwood High’s Dr. Garrett Knight named 2025–2026 5A athletic director of the year
April 7, 2026Richland School District Two proudly celebrates Dr. Garrett Knight of Westwood High School for being named the 2025–2026 5A Athletic Director of the Year by the South Carolina Athletic Administrators Association (SCAAA).
This prestigious honor recognizes Dr. Knight’s outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment to education-based interscholastic athletics. He was recognized during the SCAAA Spring Conference on March 18, 2026, at the Charleston Marriott.
With 18 years in education and currently in his fourth year with Richland Two, Dr. Knight brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to his role. He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, earned a Master of Sport Science (MSS) in Sport Administration from the United States Sports Academy, and most recently completed his Doctorate in Leadership from the American College of Education in July 2022.
Dr. Knight also serves as the current president of the South Carolina High School Strength Coaches Association (SCHSSCSA), further demonstrating his dedication to advancing athletics across the state.
A strong advocate for student-athletes, Dr. Knight is passionate about creating opportunities for students to grow through extracurricular involvement. He emphasizes preparing students for success beyond high school—physically, mentally, and socially—while fostering a culture of excellence across all athletic programs.
He is supported by his wife, Kathy Knight, Assistant Principal at Langford Elementary, and their four children: Taylor, Grayson, and twins Gabrielle and Gillian.
