Residents encouraged to complete Transportation Sales Tax survey ahead of April 10 deadline

April 7, 2026

Charleston County is encouraging residents to provide input on the proposed 2026 Transportation Sales Tax (TST) program before the online survey closes at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, April 10.

Since launching in September, the county’s public engagement effort has generated significant participation from residents across Charleston County offering feedback on roads, public transit, and greenbelt priorities.

“This has been an unprecedented outreach effort,” said Charleston County Council Chairman Joe Boykin. “We’ve received more than four times the level of input compared to previous efforts, which underscores how much our community cares about getting this right. With only a few days remaining, I encourage anyone who has not yet participated to take a moment to share their perspective. Every voice plays an important role in shaping a future program that reflects the needs and priorities of Charleston County.”

To date, the online survey has generated:

  • 46,662 question responses
  • 3,990 open ended comments
  • 4,287 individual participants

Residents can review the draft program and complete the online survey at CharlestonTransportation.com through Friday.

All public input collected will be presented to County Council later this month as they consider refinements to the proposed program.

The current draft framework was shaped by initial public engagement, which included more than 600 project ideas from residents and municipalities and identified $68 billion in transportation needs across the county.

If approved by voters, the proposed 2026 Transportation Sales Tax program is projected to generate approximately $4.25 billion over 25 years to support critical infrastructure investments across Charleston County.
