Experts Warn Job Seekers About Sophisticated New Phishing Scam Using Google AppSheet

April 14, 2026

Cybersecurity experts are warning job seekers to stay alert after scammers began exploiting Google’s AppSheet platform to send highly convincing phishing emails disguised as employment opportunities.

According to cybersecurity officials, criminals are using Google AppSheet, a legitimate no-code app development and workflow platform, to send fraudulent recruiting emails through trusted Google infrastructure—helping the messages bypass many traditional spam filters.

The emails often come from [email protected], a legitimate Google-associated domain, which can make them appear more credible to recipients. Security experts say many of the messages are carefully tailored to match a recipient’s professional background, making the offers appear especially convincing.

Victims who click the links may be directed to fake job application portals or login pages designed to steal usernames, passwords, and other personal information. Experts warn that in some cases scammers impersonate well-known companies to further legitimize the scheme.

Google has acknowledged reports of abuse involving the platform and says it has taken action against violating accounts while implementing additional safeguards to prevent future misuse.

Cybersecurity officials recommend taking the following precautions:

  • Be cautious of unsolicited job offers sent by email
  • Verify positions directly through a company’s official website
  • Avoid clicking links in unexpected recruiting emails
  • Never provide login credentials through third-party application links
  • Report suspicious emails as phishing

Experts note that the scam reflects a broader trend of cybercriminals using legitimate, trusted platforms to make phishing attempts harder to detect and more likely to succeed.
