Columbia’s Hotel Trundle selected by Google to represent South Carolina in 2025 2025 U.S. Economic Impact Report
April 22, 2026Independent boutique hotel chosen as the state’s sole featured business from more than 307,000 South Carolina companies using Google’s tools
Hotel Trundle announced it has been selected by Google as the sole South Carolina business featured in Google’s 2025 U.S. Economic Impact Report — an annual publication spotlighting one business per state that exemplifies how Google’s tools and products drive growth and innovation – released April 14th, 2026.
Hotel Trundle is the only independent boutique hotel in Columbia, founded in 2018 by architectural designers Rita Patel and Marcus Munse through the preservation and merger of three historic buildings. What began as 46 guest rooms has grown into an expanding hospitality brand, with additional guest houses already open and three more on the way.
After using Google’s tools and services, Hotel Trundle saw significant results:
- Selected as the sole South Carolina representative in Google’s 2025 U.S. Economic Impact Report — chosen from more than 307,000 South Carolina businesses that use Google’s tools at no cost.
- Google Ads — a mix of brand awareness and Performance Max campaigns — now account for nearly 54% of all website traffic, allowing an independent hotel to compete directly with franchise chains without a franchise budget.
- Gemini provides AI-powered analysis of ad campaigns and overall marketing strategy, giving Hotel Trundle capabilities previously available only to larger hospitality brands.
- Google Analytics proved critical in identifying and remedying a bot attack, protecting revenue and marketing integrity.
- Since opening in 2018, Hotel Trundle has grown from 46 guest rooms to a multi-property hospitality brand, surpassing 10,000 room nights booked in 2025 — while keeping dollars local through partnerships with Columbia artists, makers, and vendors.
“It’s not just the beautiful things you see and taste; it’s who’s behind the scenes. We try to invest in the community and bring those artisans and makers out so that our guests can see what we have to offer.” — Rita Patel, Co-owner, Hotel Trundle.
