Conestee Nature Preserve Reopens Nature Playscape Following Strategic Repairs

April 27, 2026

After a two-week closure for essential maintenance, the popular Nature Playscape at Conestee Nature Preserve has officially reopened to the public. The closure allowed staff and volunteers to complete a series of necessary repairs and improvements designed to enhance the experience for the preserve’s youngest visitors.

While the gates are open once again, officials are issuing a firm reminder to families regarding the care and preservation of the area’s unique water features.

Protecting the Creek

The centerpiece of the reopening announcement is a direct appeal for cooperation in maintaining the “Creek” water feature. Preserve staff noted that the longevity and functionality of the feature depend heavily on keeping it free from natural debris.

Visitors are asked to ensure that children do not place mulch, sticks, leaves, or gumballs into the water. “It significantly affects our maintenance load,” the Preserve stated in a public update. Debris in the water feature can lead to clogs and mechanical issues that threaten the “no water, no creek” reality of the play area.

Engineering with Care

In addition to the debris warning, the Preserve is providing guidance on the popular activity of dam-building. While building and exploring are encouraged, officials ask that dams do not completely block the flow of water. Complete blockages cause overflows, which can damage the surrounding landscape and disrupt the water cycle of the feature.

A Community-Powered Space

The Nature Playscape is maintained by the Conestee Nature Preserve, a small nonprofit organization. Officials emphasized that improvements to the Playscape and the wider 400-acre preserve are made possible through visitor support and donations.

“Most importantly, of course, have fun, be kind to each other and the play features, play, build and explore!” the Preserve shared as they welcomed the community back to the trails.

Planning Your Visit

With the reopening timed perfectly for the peak of the spring season, the Playscape is expected to see high traffic over the coming weeks. Families are encouraged to visit during daylight hours and to check the Preserve’s website for information on how to support ongoing conservation and maintenance efforts.
