May 3, 2026The City of Laurens will host a free showing of the classic comedy film “Major Payne” on Thursday, May 8, at the historic Capitol Theatre in downtown Laurens.
Doors open at 6 p.m., with the film set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free, and seating is first come, first served. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, as seating is limited. Concessions will be available for purchase.
Released in 1995, “Major Payne” stars Damon Wayans as a no-nonsense Marine Corps officer who finds himself assigned to lead a ragtag junior ROTC unit after returning from combat. What follows is a laugh-out-loud clash of military discipline and the chaos of kids, as the tough-as-nails major slowly discovers there is more to leadership than barking orders. The film has remained a fan favorite for three decades, beloved by audiences who grew up watching it and now sharing it with a new generation.
The event is open to the public and offers a fun, family-friendly evening in the heart of downtown Laurens.
