National Small Business Month, Part 1: Every Month Is a Good Month to Show Up for the Businesses That Show Up for Laurens County
May 4, 2026Every Tuesday and Thursday, the Laurens County Buzz lands in the inboxes of thousands of residents with one purpose: to share the good news of Laurens County. And some of the best news this county has to offer comes from the small businesses that line its Main Streets, anchor its neighborhoods, and show up for this community day after day.
May is National Small Business Month, and the Buzz is taking the opportunity to say what we say all year long – shop local, eat local, hire local, and invest in the businesses that invest in Laurens County.
Small businesses are not just economic engines. They are the fabric of this community. The owners sponsor the little league teams, donate to the nonprofit auctions, hire the kids fresh out of school, and keep dollars circulating right here at home. When a resident chooses a local restaurant over a chain, a local boutique over a big-box retailer, or a local service provider over a national company, that decision ripples through the entire county economy in ways that matter.
The Laurens County Buzz was built on that belief. Since launching in 2020, this platform has served as a free resource for businesses, organizations, nonprofits, and community groups to share their news, announce their events, and connect with the residents who want to support them. No paywalls. No subscription fees. Just Laurens County news, delivered to the people who love this place.
The Laurens County Chamber of Commerce shares that commitment. The Chamber’s “Shop Local Laurens County” initiative, launched in 2025, has worked to formalize the shop local message countywide, connecting residents with participating businesses, distributing free discount cards, and building community pride around the simple act of spending locally. It is a mission that aligns closely with what the Buzz has worked to do from day one.
This May, we encourage everyone in Laurens County to be intentional. Explore a business you have been meaning to visit. Leave a review for one that has earned it. Share a post about a local shop with your neighbors. And if you own or operate a business in Laurens County, the Buzz is here to help you share your story …for free.
Laurens County is on the move. The small businesses that call this county home are a big reason why.
