Simpsonville Library Branch to Host Vegetable Fermentation Class and Used Book Sale
May 6, 2026The Greenville County Library System is serving up a weekend of hands-on homesteading and bargain hunting at the Simpsonville Hendricks Branch Library.
On Saturday, May 9, 2026, the branch will host a specialized “Fermenting Vegetables” workshop followed by a highly anticipated used book sale organized by the Friends of the Library. The dual events offer residents a unique mix of culinary education and community-driven shopping.
Master the Art of Fermentation
The weekend kicks off with the “Fermenting Vegetables” class, scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Simpsonville Hendricks Branch, located at 626 NE Main Street.
Designed for home cooks and gardening enthusiasts, the educational workshop teaches the science and traditional methods of preserving fresh produce. Instructors will demonstrate how to easily ferment vegetables at home using basic kitchen tools, turning garden-harvested crops into nutrient-rich, probiotic-heavy staples like sauerkraut, pickles, and kimchi.
Because space and materials are limited, interested attendees are required to register in advance.
Friends of the Library Used Book Sale
Directly supporting local literacy and library programming, the Friends of the Greenville County Library System will also be on-site hosting a pop-up Used Book Sale.
Book lovers can browse a massive, categorized collection of gently used reading materials, including:
-
Popular fiction and best-selling mystery novels
-
Comprehensive non-fiction, biographies, and history books
-
Children’s and young adult literature
-
Media items, including movies, music, and puzzles
All proceeds from the sale are funneled directly back into the library system, funding youth summer reading programs, community workshops, and technology upgrades across all Greenville County branches.
To register for the fermenting workshop or to check library hours, visit the Greenville County Library System portal or call the Simpsonville branch directly at (864) 963-9031.
