America’s Favorite Baby Names in 2025 – Liam and Olivia Reign Again
May 13, 2026For the ninth consecutive year, Liam claimed the top spot for newborn boys in the United States. For the seventh straight year, Olivia did the same for girls. The Social Security Administration released its 2025 baby name rankings last week, drawing on Social Security number applications for approximately 3.6 million newborns.
The full top 10 for boys: Liam, Noah, Oliver, Theodore, Henry, James, Elijah, Mateo, William and Lucas. For girls: Olivia, Charlotte, Emma, Amelia, Sophia, Mia, Isabella, Evelyn, Sofia and Eliana.
Eliana was the lone newcomer to either list, climbing from No. 18 to No. 10 among girls’ names. Its rise reflects broad appeal across Hispanic and Jewish communities, among others. Ava, which had held a top 10 spot, slipped to No. 11 as a result.
The fastest-climbing boys’ name of the year was Kasai, a name meaning “fire” in Japanese and Swahili, which gained more than 1,100 spots in the rankings after a celebrity baby with the name drew public attention. On the girls’ side, Klarity, a modern variation of “clarity,” led all risers.
Researchers who track naming patterns say cultural momentum is the key force keeping names like Liam and Olivia at the top year after year. Television, music and social media personalities all factor into which names gain traction, particularly for names just outside the top tier.
Among names trending upward outside the top 10: Margot, Evangeline, Beckett and Stetson. The latter has been linked to the popularity of “Yellowstone.”
