North Charleston residents invited to shape the future of their neighborhoods
May 14, 2026BCDCOG kicks off neighborhood planning workshops in Reynolds Avenue, Mall Drive, and Aviation/Remount communities.
The Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments (BCDCOG) will host the first round of community workshops for its Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Planning initiative this May, inviting residents and business owners in three North Charleston neighborhoods to help shape plans for their communities along the future Lowcountry Rapid Transit (LCRT) corridor.
Workshops will take place May 19–20 and are free and open to the public. Children are welcome to attend and will be provided with an area to play during the meeting.
“LCRT construction is approaching, and the decisions made now will influence how these neighborhoods evolve,” said Ron Mitchum, Executive Director, BCDCOG. ” This planning effort ensures those decisions reflect the priorities of these communities.”

This Transit-Oriented Development Planning initiative is an opportunity to help define your community’s future. Together, we are creating three neighborhood plans for Reynolds Avenue, Mall Drive, and Aviation/Remount that strengthen each area’s unique character while supporting stability for existing residents and businesses. Building on years of LCRT engagement, your voice matters. Join us to help shape what comes next.
Through 2027, the TOD Planning initiative will develop neighborhood plans for all three communities, alongside corridor-wide affordability strategies that advance policy-backed solutions. The process is built around three priorities:
- Advance housing affordability strategies that help longtime residents stay, thrive, and benefit from what’s coming.
- Increase support for local businesses to support economic vibrancy during construction and beyond.
- Develop neighborhood plans anchored in feedback from people who live and work here.
All workshops are ADA accessible. To learn more or get involved, visit bcdcogconnects.com/todplanning.
