Two Georgetown County deputies graduate from CCU Leadership Program
May 14, 2026Two members of the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office have graduated from a prestigious regional leadership program designed to bolster professional standards and emergency response capabilities.
Sheriff Carter Weaver announced the graduation of Lieutenant John Prevatte and Sergeant Charles Whitaker from the Law Enforcement Education and Development (LEED) Program at Coastal Carolina University.
The duo joined law enforcement officers from across South Carolina for the intensive nine-month curriculum. Developed through a partnership between CCU and the Myrtle Beach Police Department, the LEED program is designed to bridge the gap between field operations and executive leadership.
Throughout the course, Prevatte and Whitaker engaged in a mix of traditional lectures and hands-on training. The program focuses on several core pillars of modern policing, including:
-
Professional leadership and employee development
-
Critical incident command
-
Public speaking and community engagement
-
Emerging best practices and grant writing
In a statement following the graduation, the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that such advanced certifications are vital to the agency’s mission. The department noted that the specialized training directly enhances the “service and responsiveness” provided to the local community.
Sheriff Weaver extended his formal congratulations to both officers for their commitment to the rigorous nearly year-long program.
