May 19, 2026Two Richland One seniors have been awarded the National Technical Honor Society’s (NTHS) Jon H. Poteat Scholarship.
Richland One Middle College senior Rylee Bell and Dreher High School senior Jaylah Simons were among the 275 NTHS members nationwide selected for the $1,000 scholarship, which is awarded to students who consistently exemplify the organization’s attributes – skill, honesty, service responsibility, scholarship, citizenship and leadership.
“I think this is a great opportunity that not a lot of people get to have. I’m very grateful to have the chance to receive this scholarship,” Jaylah said.
Rylee and Jaylah are members of Heyward Career and Technology Center’s health science clinical study program. Jaylah will study nursing at the University of South Carolina in the fall. Rylee, who wants to be a pediatric nurse, will attend Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
“This program has really helped me with my skills. I can make a huge impact on people’s lives when they’re sick. I’m so grateful to receive this scholarship,” Rylee said.
