Popular Household Hazardous Waste Disposal event returns this weekend
May 27, 2026Georgetown County residents have an opportunity to safely dispose of household hazardous materials and sensitive documents at a free collection event Saturday, May 30, from 9 a.m. to noon at Waccamaw Middle School, 247 Wildcat Way, Pawleys Island.
The event, sponsored by the Georgetown County Department of Public Services, accepts paint, incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs, household cleaners, non-commercial pesticides, fertilizers, and other household products labeled “warning,” “poisonous” or “toxic.” Paper documents containing staples, rubber bands or paper clips are also accepted for shredding.
Space is limited, so residents should plan to arrive early. The event will close promptly at noon with no exceptions. Several items will not be accepted. Ammunition should be taken to the Sheriff’s Office during normal business hours. Gas, propane, oil and antifreeze are not accepted at this event and should be disposed of at your local recycling center. Three-ring binders and binder clips will not be accepted with paper shredding submissions. Commercial business items will not be accepted under any circumstances.
Residents who cannot make it to the event can drop off hazardous waste items at the Georgetown County Landfill, 201 Landfill Drive, Georgetown, Monday through Friday during normal business hours. For more information, call 843-545-3452.
