Lake Greenwood to Glow Patriotic from Carolina Day Through Independence Week

June 1, 2026

Connect Lake Greenwood is inviting residents, businesses, and waterfront communities to participate in Patriotic Pier Days, a brand-new lake-wide celebration running from June 28 through July 7, 2026, along the shores of Lake Greenwood.

The event was created in honor of America’s 250th anniversary and South Carolina’s SC250 initiatives. From Carolina Day through Independence Week, Lake Greenwood will come alive with patriotic spirit as participants decorate docks, piers, boats, waterfront gathering spaces, and businesses in classic Americana style.

Organizers envision American flags lining the shoreline, patriotic dock decor and lights, boat flags, marina displays, and vintage Americana lake vibes throughout the week-long celebration.

Participation is open to homeowners, neighborhoods, waterfront businesses, marinas, restaurants, boat clubs, and community organizations. Whether a single flag on a dock or a fully decorated waterfront display, all levels of participation are welcome. Three categories are offered: residential, commercial, and public spaces.

A public participation map featuring registered locations around the lake will be released prior to the event, encouraging residents and visitors to explore displays throughout the week. The registration deadline to be included on the map is June 20. Click here to register.

Patriotic Pier Days officially opens on June 28, which marks Carolina Day, commemorating South Carolina’s historic 1776 victory at Sullivan’s Island during the American Revolution. Though the battle was fought on the coast, the patriotic spirit of that victory reached deep into the South Carolina backcountry, including the historic Ninety-Six District that encompassed present-day Greenwood and Laurens Counties. The people of this region played a critical role in the fight for independence through battles, militia service, and support of the Patriot cause.

The event continues through Independence Week as Lake Greenwood joins communities across the nation in celebrating America250.
