Sistercare receives National Purple Ribbon Award for Just Left of Perfect short film

June 3, 2026

Sistercare, a Midlands-based nonprofit dedicated to supporting survivors and reducing the impact of domestic violence in the community, has been selected as the recipient of a prestigious Purple Ribbon Award from DomesticShelters.org in the category of Documentary or Film of the Year for its powerful awareness film, “Just Left of Perfect.”

Released in July 2025, Just Left of Perfect follows a day in the life of a fictional woman experiencing intimate partner violence. The short film highlights the complex stressors, trauma, fear, and impossible decisions domestic violence (DV) survivors face every day while illustrating how abuse can remain hidden behind what appears to be a “perfect” life.

Survivor voices matter, and we remain committed to amplifying those voices to create meaningful change in our community.” The award also coincides with a milestone year for Sistercare, which is celebrating 45 years of serving domestic violence survivors and their children throughout the Midlands. Since 1981, Sistercare has worked to reduce the occurrence and impact of domestic violence through direct services, advocacy, education, and community partnerships.
