June 2, 2026PLANTERSVILLE, SC — The Village Group proudly welcomed students, families, teachers, and staff on June 2 for the opening day of the 2026 Plantersville Summer Academy and Summer Bridge Program.
More than just a summer program, the Academy provides a safe, engaging, and enriching environment where students strengthen academic skills, explore STEM and robotics, participate in cultural enrichment activities, and build confidence for the upcoming school year.
Over 220 students arrived with enthusiasm and excitement as classrooms came alive with learning, creativity, and new opportunities. Throughout the day, participants engaged in literacy and mathematics activities, team-building exercises, and hands-on learning experiences designed to combat summer learning loss and foster personal growth.

“The first day set a positive tone for what promises to be an impactful summer,” said Ray C. Funnye, Executive Director of The Village Group. “Our goal is to ensure every child leaves this program better prepared academically, socially, and emotionally than when they arrived.”
The 2026 program serves students from across Georgetown County and continues The Village Group’s longstanding commitment to preparing youth for success through education, leadership development, cultural awareness, and workforce exposure.
Students participate in engaging classroom activities designed to strengthen literacy and mathematics skills during the summer months.
