GKCU announces its Class of 2026 college scholarship recipients

Georgetown, SC – Building a brighter future means investing in the education of our future leaders. Georgetown Kraft Credit Union (GKCU) is honored to recognize area high school seniors from the graduating class of 2026 as this year’s GKCU Scholarship recipients. Each recipient is awarded a $1,000 scholarship that can be used as a supplement to offset costs of tuition, books or room and board at any two- or four-year college.

The recipients for the 2026 GKCU College Scholarships by school are: 

Andrews High School

  • Kaleb Altman, attending the University of South Carolina
  • Grace Bratcher, attending the University of South Carolina
  • Georgia Griner, attending Clemson University

Carvers Bay High School

  • Ian Gamble, attending North Carolina A&T State University

Georgetown High School

  • Nate Benton, attending The University of South Carolina
  • Sarah Cannon, attending The College of Charleston
  • Cooper Evans, attending Clemson University
  • Satcher Felts, attending Wofford College
  • Maddie Harrelson, attending Clemson University

Kingstree High School

  • Kayla Harvin, attending the University of South Carolina
  • Jaylia Whitfield, attending the University of South Carolina

Williamsburg Academy

  • Ali Ivey, attending Winthrop University
  • Tiller Kennedy, attending Charleston Southern University
  • Kolby Lockliear, attending Wofford College

 

“We strive to make build a legacy of improving lives for our members, their families and the communities we serve,” states Kevin Owens, President / CEO of GKCU. “These scholarships were started as a way to invest in the future of exceptional young men and women, but also in the future of our community.”

A three-person volunteer selection committee selected the recipients based on their academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, community service, and work and leadership experience.

“The class of 2026 exemplified the accomplishments of hard work, determination and a strong focus on personal goals,” states Nikki Ewing, GKCU Vice President of Marketing. “We are so proud to recognize their accomplishments in life so far and are even more grateful that we are part of their journey to future career and personal success. We know they will continue to make a difference in the professions they choose, the families they build, and the communities in which they live and work.”

In total, GKCU received 28 applications from seven high schools in both Georgetown and Williamsburg Counties. Applicants are required to be a GKCU member or son/daughter of a GKCU member. The application outlines interests in school and community, work and leadership experience, an essay on community service and a letter of recommendation. The recipients were recognized during the May board of directors meeting, where GKCU Board and staff members congratulated them personally.

GKCU is a member-owned, full-service financial institution with branches in Georgetown (2 locations), Andrews and Kingstree and Pawleys Island. Georgetown Kraft Credit Union is able to serve anyone who lives, works or attends school in Georgetown and Williamsburg counties.
