CCSD expands employee benefits with launch of Payactiv financial wellness program

Charleston County School District (CCSD) announced the successful launch of Payactiv, a voluntary financial wellness benefit that gives eligible employees secure access to a portion of their earned wages before their scheduled payday.
Earned Wage Access programs have become an increasingly popular employee benefit nationwide, giving workers greater control over their finances and helping them manage unexpected expenses without turning to high-interest alternatives. The program does not change employees’ regular pay schedule but provides an optional resource that allows them to access wages they have already earned. In just the first weeks after launch, 172 employees enrolled in the program, with participants accessing more than $89,000 in earned wages through the platform.
“Our employees dedicate themselves every day to serving the students and families of Charleston County, and we believe it’s important to provide resources that support them in return,” said Chief Financial Officer Daniel Prentice. “Offering Payactiv is another way we are investing in our workforce by giving employees greater flexibility and access to a financial wellness tool that can help reduce stress and provide support when unexpected expenses arise.”
Payactiv is not a loan and does not charge interest on earned wages that employees have already earned. Employees can choose from several convenient transfer options, including direct deposit to an existing bank account, transfers to a debit card, or the Payactiv Visa® Focus Card. Depending on the selected method, employees may choose between free standard transfers or real-time payment options.
The early participation numbers reflect interest from employees across multiple job categories, including teachers, classified staff, nutrition services employees, and administrators.
