June 11, 2026Residents invited to provide feedback during 6:30 p.m. County Council meeting
Charleston County Council will hold a public hearing on the proposed 2026 Transportation Sales Tax referendum during its Thursday, June 11, 2026, meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Lonnie Hamilton III Public Services Building, located at 4045 Bridge View Drive in North Charleston.
Those wishing to speak during the public hearing may sign up in person beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday. Written public comments can be submitted via email to [email protected] by 12 p.m., Thursday, June 11, 2026.
The hearing follows County Council’s approval of first reading of the ordinance and provides residents another opportunity to share feedback on the proposed program before additional readings are considered. Council may make amendments to the ordinance at any point prior to third reading.
Second reading of the ordinance is expected to occur during County Council’s meeting on Thursday, June 25, 2026.
The proposed referendum would continue the existing 2004 half-cent transportation sales tax once collections are complete, which is projected to occur in 2027. The 25-year program is expected to generate approximately $4.25 billion for roadway infrastructure, public transit, and Greenbelt investments across Charleston County.
Residents are encouraged to review the program details, project information, and public engagement materials ahead of the hearing at CharlestonTransportation.com.
