Greenville Symphony to Perform Live

For the first time, the Greenville Symphony Orchestra will perform live during Fireworks at Unity Park presented by Clemson MBA on Thursday, July 2, adding a full orchestral score to Greenville’s signature Independence Day celebration. Traditionally set to recorded music, this year’s show will unfold in sync with the energy and emotion of a live orchestra.

“The 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding offers a remarkable moment for Greenville. It’s a chance not only to honor our country’s heritage, but to celebrate the vibrant, united community we have built here together,” said Mayor Knox White.

The Symphony, now in its 79th year, will perform under the direction of Music Director Lee Mills, presenting a patriotic program designed to complement the fireworks display. Expected selections include classics such as Sousa’s “The Stars and Stripes Forever”, along with additional works chosen for the occasion.

“Performing live during the fireworks at Unity Park is the perfect capstone to our American Season and a meaningful opportunity to bring music directly into the community to help create a shared experience for thousands of people across Greenville,” said Jessica Satava, executive director of the Greenville Symphony Orchestra.

“There is something uniquely powerful about experiencing live orchestral music in the open air, especially alongside a fireworks display,” said Lee Mills, music director of the Greenville Symphony Orchestra.

The event runs from 6 to 10 p.m. at Unity Park and will feature live entertainment, food and beverage vendors, and a fireworks finale. The community is invited to continue the celebration on Saturday, July 4 at Fluor Field. The Greenville Drive will host Freedom Fest including free fireworks, a hot dog eating contest and family activities. Gates open at 6 p.m.
