Greer Relief executive director receives South Carolina’s highest civilian honor
Community leaders, partners and supporters gathered June 17 at the Historic Greer Depot to honor Caroline Robertson, executive director of Greer Relief, as she was formally presented with the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s highest civilian honor.
The award, presented on behalf of Gov. Henry McMaster, recognizes individuals whose lifetime achievements, service and contributions have made a lasting impact on the state and its communities.
The private reception included an invocation, a video highlighting Robertson’s journey, reflections from community leaders and colleagues, and the official presentation of the award by Greer Mayor Rick Danner.
Robertson was recognized for her longstanding leadership and commitment to strengthening communities through service, advocacy and development efforts. Her influence has touched individuals and organizations across the region, where she is widely respected for her mentorship, vision and dedication to positive community impact.
Robertson was nominated for the honor by Yvonne McMains-Thompson, director of mission impact at Greer Relief, who has worked closely with Robertson and witnessed the leadership and community commitment behind the recognition.

Established in 1971 by Gov. John C. West, the Order of the Palmetto is South Carolina’s highest civilian honor, recognizing individuals for extraordinary service, leadership and contributions to the state. In 1999, a nonpartisan panel established formal criteria and a nomination process to help ensure the integrity and significance of the award.
