Under the general direction of the Director of Campus Recreation, the Assistant Director of Intramurals, Sport Clubs, and Camps provide leadership, administration, and strategic oversight for the Intramural Sports Program, Sport Club Program, and Summer Camp Program. As a member of the Campus Recreation leadership team, this position is responsible for the planning, organization, implementation, promotion and assessment of comprehensive recreational sports opportunities that support student engagement and development.

Primary responsibilities include the administration of the Intramural Sports Program, including scheduling, staffing, supervision, and evaluation of all leagues, tournaments, and special events. The Assistant Director also oversees the Sport Club Program through the supervision, development, and support of student-led clubs. In addition, the position serves as Director of the Summer Camp Program, providing oversight of program promotion, registration, participant communications, staff recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation to ensure a safe and high-quality camp experience.
• Plans, implements, coordinates, and administers a comprehensive Intramural Sports Program that promotes student engagement, well-being, a sense of belonging, and campus community while supporting student retention and success. Develops innovative and recreational opportunities that meet the diverse interests and needs of residential, commuter, graduate, and online-affiliated students. Utilizes participation data, assessment measures, and student feedback to evaluate program effectiveness and inform continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provides exceptional customer service by fostering a welcoming, safe, and participant-centered environment for all users. Recruits, trains, supervises, and develops a high-performing student staff team focused on service excellence, risk management, leadership development, and creating positive experiences for participants across a wide range of competitive, recreational, and social sport offerings.
• Provides leadership, coordination, administration, and strategic oversight for the USC Upstate Sparty’s Kids Camp Program. Responsible for the planning, implementation, promotion, and continuous assessment of camp operations to deliver engaging, safe, and developmentally appropriate experiences for participants. Oversees program registration, parent and participant communications, risk management practices, budget administration, and compliance with university policies and youth protection standards.
• Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates camp counselors and student staff, fostering a culture of safety, inclusion, customer service excellence, and leadership development. Collaborates with campus and community partners to enhance program offerings, expand outreach efforts, and support the university’s mission of community engagement and lifelong wellness.
• Provide strategic leadership for the recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, supervision, performance evaluation, and professional development of all officials and IM supervisors. Leverage data-driven workforce management practices, digital scheduling tools, continuous feedback systems, mentorship, and succession planning to foster a high-performance culture, ensure operational excellence and compliance, and enhance employee engagement, development, and retention.
• Provide strategic leadership for the coordination, administration, and oversight of the USC Upstate Sport Club Program, including club development, student leadership training, risk management, budget administration, event and travel coordination, and policy compliance. Utilize data-informed decision-making, digital program management tools, and student engagement strategies to enhance participation, foster accessible and welcoming recreational opportunities, support student success, and promote a safe, high-quality club sports experience.
• Assist in the management of Campus Recreation facility operations, including oversight of facility readiness, cleanliness, sanitation standards, equipment maintenance, and risk management practices. Supervise recreational spaces during Intramural Sports activities to ensure participant safety, policy compliance, and the effective operation of programs and facilities. Utilize digital facility management and reporting systems to support operational efficiency, incident tracking, and continuous improvement initiatives. Collaborate with campus partners and stakeholders to advance the mission of Student Affairs through student engagement, wellness promotion, event coordination, and the successful execution of departmental and campus-wide programs and events.
• Assist in the coordination, implementation, and support of Student Affairs initiatives, programs, services, and events that promote student engagement, well-being, belonging, and success. Collaborate with campus partners to support departmental operations, student-centered programming, assessment efforts, communication strategies, and special projects while contributing to the achievement of Student Affairs goals and institutional priorities.
• Perform additional duties, projects, and responsibilities assigned to support departmental operations, strategic initiatives, student success, campus engagement, and evolving institutional priorities.

Qualifications: Masters degree in Student Services or related field, or bachelor’s degree and 2 years related experience. A successful background check is required. A valid driver’s license and good driving record required. A successful background check is required.

Salary: $44,296 – $45,900; Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: This position requires flexibility to work beyond standard business hours. The typical schedule is Monday–Friday, 11:30 a.m.–8:00 p.m., the role regularly includes evening and late-night programming, occasional weekend events, and limited travel with student groups to support student engagement and campus life.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, along with knowledge of University Emergency Medical Procedures, program planning, and athletic officiating rules. A commitment to student success, well-being, and relationship-centered programming is essential. Good driving record. Successful background checks are required.
