FEMA makes $50 million available for mitigation projects in Southeastern States
June 22, 2026FEMA announced that more than $50 million in federal funding for 25 hazard mitigation projects is available to seven Southeastern states.
Congress authorized these named projects through the Fiscal Year 2026 Homeland Security and Further Additional Continuing Appropriations Act and funding has been made available through FEMA’s Pre-Disaster Mitigation grant program. Nationwide, 40 states and one tribal nation are expected to receive funding for 125 projects totaling more than $189 million.
These projects will empower communities and states to take proactive steps before future disasters.
In FEMA Region 4, identified projects include:
Alabama
- $1.2 million for Atmore’s storm drainage improvements project.
- $2.6 million for Birmingham’s Village Creek Stormwater Park floodplain restoration project.
- $2 million for Foley’s underground utilities project.
- $2.5 million for the Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children’s generator project.
- $893,000 for Jasper’s flood mitigation infrastructure project.
- $3 million for Sumter County’s storm drainage improvements project in Livingston.
- $4 million for the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce’s Washington Ferry Road restoration project.
- $900,000 for Winston County’s road and bridge restoration project.
Florida
- $1.1 million for the Boynton Beach Harbor Maina’s seawall replacement project.
- $1.9 million for the Longboat Key Storm resiliency project.
- $428,000 for Pembroke Pines’ hurricane mitigation project.
- $2.6 million for Pinellas County’s Lealman Community hurricane shelter.
- $1.1 million for St. Petersburg’s MLK Street south flooding alleviation project.
- $1.1 million for St. Petersburg’s 88th Avenue North storm drainage Improvements project.
Kentucky
- $5.8 million for Frankfort’s riverbank stabilization project.
- $869,000 to the Kentucky Emergency Management’s flood monitoring system project.
Mississippi
- $1.1 million for Jackson’s Midtown area stormwater infrastructure improvements project.
- $1.1 million for Jackson’s Queens area stormwater infrastructure improvements project.
- $2.5 million for the Long Beach Harbor’s mitigation project.
- $4 million for Ridgeland’s citywide flood mitigation project.
North Carolina
- $4.2 million for the Locks Creek and Sessoms drainage improvements project in Fayetteville.
- $2.6 million for the Wanchese Marine Industrial Park Authority Living Shoreline resilience project.
South Carolina
- $1.3 million for Westminster’s emergency standby generator and control center for drinking water plant project.
- $1.3 million for the Catfish Canal’s stormwater improvements mitigation project.
Tennessee
- $117,000 for Gibson County’s emergency generator project.
Before funds are awarded, these communities must submit an application by 5 p.m. Eastern Time on July 22, 2026. FEMA will review all applications and disburse funding only after confirming that eligibility criteria have been met.
