Charleston Digital launches AI Academy at Charleston Learning Center

June 23, 2026

Charleston Digital has launched the AI Academy at the Charleston Learning Center (CLC), expanding its efforts to help residents develop practical artificial intelligence skills for the workplace and beyond.

The new academy follows a successful pilot program focused on collaborating with AI agents and builds on Charleston Digital’s long-standing workforce development initiatives. Since 2011, the organization has emphasized the importance of technical literacy and adaptability in preparing the region’s workforce for future economic opportunities.

The AI Academy will offer in-person classes and workshops designed for learners at all experience levels across the Charleston region. The program aims to help participants move beyond uncertainty about AI and develop the skills, confidence and productivity needed to effectively use emerging technologies.

“AI is a tool, and like any tool, it’s only useful if people know how to use it,” said Charleston Mayor William Cogswell. “Charleston Digital is making sure our residents have that knowledge.”

Merle Johnson, executive director of Charleston County Economic Development, said the program aligns with the workforce needs of local employers.

“We appreciate Charleston Digital’s efforts to develop workforce skills that align with the needs of Charleston County employers,” Johnson said.

Residents interested in learning about AI can begin with a free Introduction to AI course. Additional offerings include intermediate-level classes focused on AI applications for professionals and small business owners, as well as advanced courses such as the Collaborating with Agents series.

Charleston Digital will host an AI Academy open house at 9 a.m. on July 1 to provide information about upcoming classes and programs. You can register HERE.

For more than 20 years, Charleston Digital has worked to support and grow the region’s technology economy through workforce development programs, events and business support initiatives. The organization reports that it has assisted more than 500 companies during that time.

The Charleston Learning Center provides business and technical training, certificate programs and networking opportunities for residents throughout the Tri-County region.
