Community and history intersect at this Saturday’s special Georgetown Growers Market

June 23, 2026

This coming Saturday promises to be far from an ordinary weekend morning in historic Georgetown. The weekly Georgetown Growers Market, located at the intersection of Front and Fraser Streets, is teaming up with the Georgetown County 250th Celebration committee to host an extra-special event that blends local commerce with national history.

Running from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, the market will feature its staple selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, cheeses, dairy products, baked goods, snacks, flowers, plants, and unique local handcrafts. However, visitors arriving this week will also be stepping into the kickoff of the week-long Carolina Days Celebration, marking the nation’s upcoming 250th birthday.

A Colonial Kickoff

The opening ceremonies for the Celebrate Carolina / Made in Carolina festivities will officially begin at 10:00 am.

To honor the milestone, the event will take on a distinct Colonial theme. Attendees can expect a formal presentation of the Colors by the Georgetown Fire Department Color Guard, patriotic musical performances, keynote speeches delivered by local dignitaries as well as apiece of living history with large-scale copies of the Declaration of Independence to be laid out, inviting all community members and visitors to personally sign their names to the historic document.

The Friends of the Library Book Sale

Avid readers will also want to arrive early. The Friends of the Georgetown Library will be hosting their popular weekly Book Sale concurrently from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

To keep the market fair to all early-bird shoppers, organizers note that browsing and purchasing will not begin until the market officially opens at 9:00 AM. Hardbacks will be priced at $1.00 and paperbacks at $0.50.

In keeping with the day’s historical spirit, this week’s inventory will feature an expanded selection of specially priced books about the Revolutionary War period and volumes of local interest, alongside their usual selection of hardback and paperback fiction, cookbooks, children’s literature, and classic novels.

Whether you are looking to stock up on fresh summer produce, hunt down a rare piece of local history in print, or have your family sign the Declaration of Independence, this Saturday’s market offers a unique chance to celebrate the community’s roots and the nation’s future.
