Georgetown celebrates history and fun at inaugural Carolina Kids Day
June 30, 2026The lawn of the Kaminski House Museum was filled with energy and excitement today as over 100 children, accompanied by their parents and grandparents, gathered to celebrate Carolina Kids Day. The free public event commemorated the anniversary of the American Revolution with a morning packed full of historical activities, crafts, and the highly anticipated launch of a new downtown attraction.
Families enjoyed a wide variety of hands-on activities designed to bring history to life for children of all ages:
-
Historical Crafts & Games: Children stayed busy making traditional crafts and toys, playing corn hole, coloring foxes, and even testing their skills at writing with authentic quill pens.
-
Sweet Treats: Beverly Homes generously sponsored the event, while Kona Ice was on hand to beat the summer heat, providing free snow cones to the first 50 kids in attendance.
-
Special Giveaways: Every child walked away with a special goody bag packed with treats, courtesy of the Kaminski House Museum.
The “Foxes on Front” hunt begins
The highlight of the morning was the official 10:30 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony for the permanent Foxes on Front Hunt. Co-unveiled by the DAR, Colonial Dames, and the Georgetown 250 organizations, the hunt is named in honor of General Francis Marion, the Revolutionary War hero famously known as the “Swamp Fox.”
Immediately following the ribbon cutting, excited children and their families headed out into the historic downtown district to kick off the hunt. Participants are now tasked with tracking down nine tiny foxes cleverly hidden throughout downtown Georgetown.
The Foxes on Front Hunt is now permanently open to locals and visitors alike. Families interested in participating in the historic downtown scavenger hunt can find clues and more information by visiting the official Foxes on Front Website.
