Health Risks and Outbreak Details
The recall was triggered following reports of 12 confirmed cases of digestive illness between May 11, 2026, and June 5, 2026. Laboratory testing linked the illnesses to infections from Escherichia coli O145:H28 (E. coli O145).
E. coli O145 is a Shiga toxin-producing strain of the bacteria that can cause severe gastrointestinal distress. Symptoms typically include severe stomach cramps, vomiting, and diarrhea, which may become bloody. While most healthy individuals recover fully within a week, the infection poses a risk of a serious complication known as hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). HUS can cause kidney failure and is particularly dangerous for young children, older adults, and individuals with compromised immune systems.
Consumer Action Required
Anyone currently holding a package matching the specified lot number is instructed not to consume the fruit. The product should be thrown away immediately or returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Downstream commercial distributors and retail locations have been instructed to isolate any remaining inventory from the lot and halt further distribution immediately while an investigation into the source of the contamination continues.
